Professional Tutor in for Middle School, High School, and College in these subjects:
Education
Ph.D. Degree – 1971, Physics, Stanford University
B.S. Degree – 1966, Physics, University of California, Berkeley
My goal in tutoring is to go beyond the student’s immediate need to understand the solutions to troublesome problems, but to analyze the overall needs of the student and provide meaningful instruction. I am familiar with a wide range of traditional and computerized pedagogical tools so I can find methods for presentations that meet the learning styles of the individual student. I have found that often very talented students in mathematics suddenly appear to have difficulty with the advance topics; this is often because they need to approach problems in a more disciplined fashion than they had previously done. I can provide to the students instructional materials that I have created and/or refer them to other resources.
I am currently a professor at Menlo College and Foothill Community College where I am teaching Algebra and Physics, respectively. I have also recently completed teaching Statistics and Calculus at those schools. I have been providing classroom and individual instruction for several years, and I have developed online instructional materials in economics, finance, mathematics and physics. I have provided instructional materials for astronauts on technical photography, graduate students at Duke University’s Business School, and technicians and engineers for operating new equipment.
I have a good rapport and enjoy working with students.
To reduce the costs, I would be pleased to tutor small groups of students who are at a similar competency level.
